About the role
The Staff Engineer, Thermal Systems Engineering will play a key role in the design, analysis, and optimization of data center cooling systems, with an emphasis on advanced applied water-cooled chiller solutions. This position is responsible for supporting performance selections, conducting system-level thermal analyses, and assisting in the integration of applied chillers to achieve exceptional efficiency and reliability. The Staff Engineer will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams and provide technical support throughout the project lifecycle, contributing expertise to ensure the deployment of robust and innovative cooling solutions for data centers.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist in the performance selection, evaluation, and specification of applied water-cooled chiller systems for data centers.
Support the selection process by collaborating with engineering, marketing, sales, and operations teams to ensure thermal system compatibility and effective communication across project stakeholders.
Contribute to technical reviews and provide support during all project phases, including review of engineering drawings, specifications, and submittals related to applied chiller systems.
Identify and help resolve technical issues impacting thermal system performance, reliability, and sustainability, escalating complex challenges to senior engineers as needed.
Work with vendors, consultants, and internal teams to support compliance with industry standards and client-specific requirements for data center cooling solutions.
Participate in initiatives that drive innovation and continuous improvement in data center thermal management technologies and practices.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering with 8+ years of experience in HVAC engineering, with a strong emphasis on performance modeling, design, and testing of chiller or commercial refrigeration systems OR
Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Chemical Engineering with 5+ years for experience in HVAC engineering, with a strong emphasis on performance modeling, design, and testing of chiller or commercial refrigeration systems OR
PhD in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering with 2+ years of experience in HVAC engineering, with a strong emphasis on performance modeling, design, and testing of chiller or commercial refrigeration systems.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Expertise in thermal analysis softwares (e.g., EES, Dymola)
- Proven expertise in large-scale projects.
- Familiarity with industry standards (ASHRAE, AHRI) and regulations.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail, with a record of accomplishment of delivering high-quality results on schedule.
- Effective communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
- Team player with a collaborative mindset and a passion for innovation and continuous improvement.
