ABOUT THE ROLE:
The Staff Controls Engineer is a critical position, and the selected individual will play a key role in product development: supporting HVAC cooling and heat pump equipment development, developing software and mechanical controls requirements for new products, control box development, and secure product requirement compliance and agency certification.
The candidate will actively participate in the New Product Development process applying electrical and software expertise to optimize the release of next generation of HVAC equipment for building applications.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for a sub-project of a major new product development program or the entire smaller scope new product controls development programs.
- Provide expertise in controls and controls systems the development of next generation high efficiency and environmentally friendly HVAC&R and electronic control systems.
- Develop and execute test and qualification for systems, sub-systems, and components. Review test results in relation to design or rated specifications and test objectives and modify or adjust equipment to meet specifications.
- Provide reliability analysis of components and systems.
- Provide daily direction to supporting Designers & Technicians.
- Provide leadership and technical mentorship to more junior engineers
- Prepare presentations for Qualification Review Boards including demonstrating the use of Quality System deployment tools.
- Collaborate with team members from Marketing, Design Engineering, and Manufacturing Engineering.
- Document process improvements as part of standard engineering work.
- Identification of reliable and cost-effective purchased components required for new product development projects
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering with 8+ years of engineering experience
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience or familiarity with various HVAC applications or similar industries
- Experience with mechanical and/or software controls for HVAC applications or similar applications; thermal management, building automation systems, etc
- Hands-on experience working in an Engineering design environment.
- Demonstrated system design thinking skills and creative new product design skills.
- Project management and interpersonal skills and the ability to work within an engineering design team
- Working knowledge of manufacturing fabrication and assembly methods.
- Working knowledge of industry test and safety standards.
- Demonstrated experience in continual process improvement .
- Experience with model-based design techniques
- Experience integrating and verifying & validating performance of complex systems
- Ability to work with minimal supervision in a lean and fast paced environment
- Ability to work with geographically dispersed teams and a diverse cultural environment
- Ability to professionally engage with cross-functional and cross-regional teams to understand and translate product requirements into control system requirements
- Ability to communicate complex technical concepts across technical and non-technical organizations
- Ambitious self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced design environment.
- Ability for developing continuous improvement projects to influence and drive change
- Excellent Follow-up and follow-through skills is a must.
- Demonstrate an ability to deliver successful designs under tight timing constraints.
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail, while managing multiple priorities.
- Knowledge of CSA/ANSI and UL Standards is a plus. AHRI, ASHRAE, DOE, EPA, NEC, UL/CSA, etc.
- Knowledge of SAP and Creo is a plus
- Familiarity with Heat Pumps is a plus
- Knowledge of model development software tools like Ansys/Fluent is a strong differentiator.
- Experience in thermo-fluid system control development.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, & PowerPoint).
- Knowledge of Matlab / Simulink, Visual Basic, C/C++.

Pay Range:
