About this role:

The Product Manager, Gaseous Suppression (PM) is the interface between market and customer needs and the internal functions of the company. The PM is a business-critical role that is responsible for managing, developing, and implementing activities to maximize awareness and sales of Kidde Fire Systems Gaseous Fire Suppression Systems. The PM is the product champion in providing strategic leadership, cross-departmental coordination, sales training, positioning, value propositions and general sales enablement tools to meet company objectives of product line sales. The PM works closely with and collaborates extensively with other Product Managers.

This position reports directly to the Director, Product Management & Strategy, and collaborates with the full spectrum of Kidde Fire Systems leaders and team members, including sales, customer services (commercial, technical, applications, training), marketing & communications, engineering & program management, operations, supply chain, planning and finance. With primary responsibility for Kidde Fire Systems-Ashland, the PM will also support the Kidde Fire Protection, UK and Kidde Fire Systems-India businesses on as-needed basis.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the Director, Product Management, and other Product Managers to drive the strategic direction for the Gaseous Fire Suppression product portfolio.
  • Drive new product development, major sustaining and value engineering projects including business plans, business cases, conducing Voice of Customer exercises, defining product requirements, features and functionality, pricing, customer implementation and others as necessary.
  • Be the expert in customers, competitors, market, and market trends that affect the business.
  • Identify competitive threats and opportunities and communicate recommendations to management.
  • Develop value proposition and positioning statements for the products and implement these in the product literature including technical documents, press releases, technical training, and others.
  • Collaborate with the Market & Pricing Analyst to prepare, manage, and update product pricing throughout the product lifecycle; review margins and make recommendations for change.
  • Collaborate with Marketing-Communication’s on white papers, technical papers, and creation of sales collateral.
  • Track the business performance to plan and make recommendations to management for improving sales and profitability of the product lines.
  • Develop and maintain volume forecast across the product lines; communicate changes based on trends and anticipated events.
  • Develop and provide product sales training to internal and external customers.
  • Support the customer services teams (commercial, technical, applications, training) on as-needed basis.
  • Keep abreast of related codes and standards including NFPA, UL, FM, etc. Be aware of global codes, regulations and standards that impact the fire suppression industry at large.
  • Support the company at events, including company events, sales meetings, trade shows, customer visits, etc.
  • Collaborate with others on the Marketing team to project a cohesive company image.
  • Align with organizational strategies and meet and exceed the organization KPIs.
  • Build strong relationships with peers and senior management within the company and externally with key suppliers, strategic partners, and customers.
  • Inculcate the use of Kidde Excellence tools including VSM, Kaizen, Process Maps, and RAILs, to drive positive change.
  • Assist with maintaining a safe working environment for all.

Required Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 5 + years of experience as a Product Manager or Product Marketing Manager or in a Business Development role.

Preferred Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering preferred.
  • MBA preferred.
  • Product Management and Project Management certification desired.
  • Experience within the fire protection industry is preferred, ideally within the special hazards segment.
  • Must have strong financial/commercial mindset and business judgment skills.
  • Must have excellent English writing and presentation skills. Multi-lingual is an advantage.
  • Must have a strong High degree of proficiency with Microsoft Office – Excel, Word, PowerPoint
  • Strong marketing analysis and project management skills.
  • Self-motivated individual who continually seeks growth and development for themselves and their teams.
  • Ability to work well independently and cross-functionally as part of an established and growing team.
  • Ability to build effective working relationships, influence, and problem-solve complex issues.
  • Must be able to travel upon request (~25%).
