Build a career with confidence

Carrier is a leading provider of heating, ventilating, air conditioning and refrigeration systems, building controls and automation, and fire and security systems leading to safer, smarter, balanced, and high-performance buildings.

Carrier’s Digital Products and Software team is building solutions to reimagine systems that shape the way we live, work, and play. We're setting the standard for healthier, safer, and more resilient built environments – and connecting the cold chain to improve the process of safely shipping and storing food and critical medical supplies.

About the Role:

The AI Governance Specialist is a senior individual contributor responsible for designing and operationalizing core components of Carrier's enterprise AI governance program. This role leads risk evaluation of AI tools and use cases, develops governance frameworks and standard work, and serves as a subject matter expert to the AI Review Board (AIRB) and cross-functional stakeholders across legal, cybersecurity, product security, and business units. The Specialist operates with significant autonomy — owning workstreams end-to-end, shaping program maturity, and advising leadership on governance posture and remediation strategy. This role is well-suited for a practitioner with deep expertise in AI risk, technology governance, or regulatory compliance who is ready to build capability in a first-mover governance function.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead end-to-end risk evaluations of AI tools and use cases, applying risk tiers and producing defensible recommendation memos for AIRB consideration
  • Design and maintain governance frameworks, including the AI Risk and Control Matrix, RACI structures, and AIRB operating procedures (SLAs, voting protocols, escalation paths)
  • Develop standard work for the AI tools approval process including intake requirements, review criteria, and conditional approval conditions
  • Own the post-audit remediation roadmap — prioritizing epics and child stories, resolving gaps in documentation, and managing progress against milestones for executive reporting
  • Serve as a governance advisor to business unit leaders and AI system owners on compliance obligations across the AI lifecycle (planning through retirement)
  • Build and maintain independent monitoring mechanisms to validate submitter-reported ROI and compliance with approval conditions
  • Translate regulatory developments (EU AI Act, NIST AI RMF, regional requirements) into actionable policy updates and governance controls
  • Prepare executive-level communications including program status decks, risk summaries, and quarterly milestone reporting for SVP-level audiences
  • Mentor junior analysts and support delegation of operational tracking and coordination workstreams

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Law, Risk Management, Data Science, or a related field; advanced degree preferred
  • 5–8 years of experience in AI governance, technology risk, enterprise compliance, or internal audit — with at least 2 years focused on AI or data governance specifically
  • Demonstrated ability to design governance frameworks and operationalize policy requirements across complex, matrixed organizations
  • Strong working knowledge of AI/ML concepts, including model risk, bias, explainability, and the AI development lifecycle
  • Experience conducting or leading risk assessments for technology or AI systems, with the ability to produce audit-ready documentation
  • Track record of preparing and presenting materials for senior leadership audiences
  • Strong stakeholder management skills; able to build credibility with legal, cybersecurity, and business partners without direct authority

Preferred Qualifications

  • Direct experience implementing or auditing against CPM-style or equivalent enterprise AI governance policies
  • Familiarity with Model Risk Management (MRM) frameworks as applied in regulated industries (financial services, healthcare, or industrial)
  • Working knowledge of applicable AI regulations including the EU AI Act, NIST AI Risk Management Framework, and ISO/IEC 42001
  • Experience managing post-audit remediation efforts, including Jira-based epic and story tracking
  • Certifications in AI governance, risk management, or information security (e.g., CDAI, CRISC, CISA, CISSP)
  • Experience in a global enterprise environment with exposure to multi-jurisdictional regulatory requirements
  • Prior involvement in standing up a governance function or program from early-stage maturity
