Building Performance Engineer/Analyst II

We are seeking a Building Performance Engineer/Analyst II to join our Codes and Standards Team with a focus on energy codes compliance software development. You will be a member of the Sustainability Division of NORESCO and will execute projects with the Codes and Standards team members. The person selected to fill this position shall have extensive knowledge of building energy simulation tools (e.g. EnergyPlus, OpenStudio), software developer languages and tools (e.g. Python, Git, Visual Studio), building science, and energy-efficient technologies. Knowledge of energy codes (IECC and/or Title 24, Part 6) desired.

As a Codes and Standards software team member, you will have significant impact on the effort to decarbonize California buildings. NORESCO’s group of talented individuals, possessing diverse and specialized skills covering a wide range of capabilities in the energy efficiency sector, is able to leverage unique and existing client relationships, providing you with limitless opportunities for growth and having an impact in shaping the compliance software landscape in California and beyond.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Lead and conduct energy efficiency analyses using energy modeling and applied techniques, cost-effectiveness analyses, and other analyses related to energy policy
  • Work with senior staff to develop software projects that will extend the functionality of existing compliance software: determine needs, create research/validation plans, write software code and test plans, integrate code with developer team(s) into large software projects
  • Provide clear and well-written memorandums and reports to various clients (investor-owned utilities, state energy commissions, building owners, architects, engineers) regarding energy policy and other analyses
  • Ensure technical quality and accurate technical content of project-related documents and provide oversight and review of supporting staff
  • Meet and contact clients as appropriate to discuss methods, and present results and recommendations
  • Support business development efforts
  • Develop and manage project budgets, schedules, and tasks with minimal oversight
  • Occasional business travel  
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Engineering (mechanical, electrical, environmental, architectural, or related sustainability field) plus 5+ years work experience in a related field (or Bachelor’s degree plus 7+ years).
  • Knowledge of Title 24, ASHRAE Standard 90.1, IECC, and other energy codes and standards.
  • Extensive experience with EnergyPlus, OpenStudio, and eQuest energy modeling software; experience with CBECC-Com or CBECC-Res compliance software is a plus
  • Experience with large-scale simulations and data analysis/visualization, and the supporting technologies (Python/Ruby, Tableau/Pandas, AWS/Docker, DBMS flavors); familiarity with revision control systems (e.g. SourceForge, Git) and source code management a plus
  • Demonstrated ability to write technical reports, papers, and provide presentations to knowledgeable audiences.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of and experience with the architectural design process and all phases of design and construction from pre-design to construction administration.
