About this role:
We are looking for a highly motivated Embedded System leader to provide technical leadership to the global teams that develop Carrier’s embedded control products. These solutions require the product development coordination of embedded controls technologies work with a team of engineers responsible for developing embedded solutions that drive the Carrier HVAC equipment controls and smart, cloud-connected thermostats. The ideal candidate is excited by embedded products development, HVAC system controls, developing software and mechanical controls requirements for new products, and new connected technologies.

Key Responsibilities:
The candidate will have responsibility for the following in addition to ad hoc assignments as needed.
- Executing the role of a systems engineer in the embedded control product development processes.
- Work closely with marketing and customers to define requirements for HVAC systems.
- Develop next-generation systems and component requirements through collaboration with key stakeholders, product benchmarking, and input from industry standards.
- Decompose requirements and use-cases into system-level and component-level requirements.
- Capture requirements, write specifications, define test plans for system verification and validation.
- Document systems and functional requirements.
- Support the Reliability & Validation Engineer to ensure systematic verification of systems by establishing requirements traceability, developing system-level test-cases/plans, and ensuring test coverage across applicable test methods.
- Help define the systems architecture for new products.
- Work closely with hardware, firmware, software, mechanical, validation/reliability, and manufacturing engineering teams.
- Resolve technical issues by applying problem-solving techniques and facilitating cross-functional support from the Engineering and Test Organizations.
- Actively participate in the project planning process (e.g., estimates for project plan tasks, resources, completion time, capital requirements, risks, expenses, etc.)
- Lead and participate in software DFMEAs.
- Balance sustaining and new product development projects.
- Participate in risk identification reviews.
- Demonstrates the ability to work within a project team.
- Responsible for execution of multiple tasks simultaneously within the functional discipline.
- Works with moderate guidance on projects with short-term focus.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering
- 10+ years of systems engineering development experience with embedded products
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience providing systems leadership in a cross-competency environment.
- Experience in leading DFMEAs.
- Experience in using IBM DOORS, JIRA/Confluence, or AZURE Dev Ops.
- Experience with requirements capture/definition.
- Experience with 8, 16, and 32 Microcontrollers.
