Summary:
We are seeking a visionary and experienced Senior Technical Specialist to lead our Center of Excellence (CoE) focused on innovation within the HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) sector. This role offers a unique opportunity to define the strategic direction and technology roadmap for our System Modeling initiatives, drive end-to-end product and platform development, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver intelligent and sustainable HVAC solutions. Our CoE is investing in next generation modeling solutions to predict thermodynamic performance of HVAC and refrigeration systems. Modeling software developed by the HVAC/R Design & Sales Software team is used globally for the design of advanced, high efficiency, environmentally friendly air conditioning products and systems.
Key Role Responsibilities:
Perform component/system model test to support development of next generation simulation toolchain
Design and develop physics-based thermo-fluid models of HVAC components
Integrate and compose component models into HVAC equipment system models
Perform model testing, calibration and validation based on experimental data
Work with Carrier engineering design centers globally on challenging modeling problems and promote the application of modeling and simulation techniques to support design decisions
Align with global team to define Agile user story/feature for local modeling group
Serve as scrum master to host standup meetings to ensure iteration deliverables on track.
Collaborate with external partners, research labs, and startups to evaluate emerging technologies and integrate cutting-edge innovation.
Establish best practices and governance for system model development
Monitor industry trends and regulatory changes, and steer strategic adjustments in technology direction as needed.
Represent the CoE in leadership reviews, partner discussions, and global collaboration forums.
Basic Qualifications:
Candidates should have at least 10-14 years of experience of physical modeling, with at least 5 years in technical leadership/managerial roles.
Good proficiency of one or more programming languages from Modelica, C#, VB6, MATLAB, Python, Java, C/C++ and Fortran
Experience of Agile development process. The experience of scrum master is desirable.
Experience of writing/solving equation-based model in one or more integrated solver toolchains, such as Matlab, Dymola, etc.
Knowledge of software programming techniques, including object-oriented methodologies, version control management
Strong technical writing abilities to provide high quality documentation and standard work.
Track record of leading high-performing technical teams and delivering modeling solutions.
Preferred Qualifications:
Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or related discipline.
Experience in applying Model Based Design (MBD) for industrial use cases.
Familiarity with HVAC standards, energy modeling (ASHRAE, DOE), or building automation protocols (BACnet, Modbus).
Possess knowledge of numerical methods and solvers, optimization and robust design techniques
Follow Agile development process during daily work
Use methods for model convergence (scaling, smoothing), model diagnostics, debugging, initialization, identification of limits of performance
Be able to work as a part of a multidisciplinary team and in a global environment (our engineers are in the US, Italy, France, Germany, China, India. We collaborate with research institutions worldwide)
Observe discipline with the development and adoption of standard development processes
Have a solid track record of working under pressure and focus on results
Solid technical writing, presentation and communication skills
Experience fostering innovation through patents, publications, or academic collaborations.
