About this role

Carrier Global Supply Chain Operations is looking for a Director Strategic Sourcing (Steel commodity) to join our team. This exciting opportunity will focus on leading the Strategic Sourcing for the Steel Commodity in the execution of supply chain strategies in the HVAC and Refrigeration business. Develops sourcing standards and operational plans to address capacity issues and production decisions. Oversees all aspects of supplier selections, negotiations, and contract administration.

This is an onsite opportunity for someone living in Palm Beach Gardens in Florida or willing to relocate.

Key Responsibilities

As the Director Strategic Sourcing, this role involves:

  • Category Strategy Development: Develop and execute a comprehensive category strategy for Steel, aligned with the organization's overall procurement and business objectives. Conduct market research and analysis to identify new opportunities, potential risks, and emerging trends within the Steel industry
  • Supplier Management: Lead supplier identification, evaluation, selection, and relationship management activities. Establish and maintain strong partnerships with key suppliers to ensure the highest quality, competitive pricing, and timely delivery of steel raw materials, components and products
  • Negotiation and Contract Management: Negotiate favorable terms, conditions, and pricing with suppliers. Draft and manage contracts and agreements to protect the organization's interests while promoting mutually beneficial partnerships
  • Cost Optimization: Implement cost reduction initiatives and continuously monitor market dynamics to capitalize on cost-saving opportunities within the Steel category without compromising quality
  • Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including Engineering, Product Development, and Operations, to understand their requirements and ensure alignment between procurement and business objectives
  • Supplier Performance Management: Define and track key performance indicators (KPIs) for suppliers, evaluate their performance regularly, and work collaboratively to address any performance issues
  • Team Leadership: Build and lead a high-performing team of procurement professionals to support the Steel category. Provide coaching, mentorship, and professional development opportunities to team members

Basic Qualifications

We are looking for someone to manage the team for Strategic Sourcing for the Steel Commodity and to provide strategic leadership. You will need:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 10+ years of experience leading a supply chain or engineering team and familiarity with industrial operations

Preferred Qualifications

Other qualifications you may have that would be beneficial in this role include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in operations, supply chain, business, or engineering
  • MBA
  • Knowledge of the Steel market, suppliers, and product trends
  • Negotiation skills & strategic mindset
  • Operations acumen
  • Project management skills
  • Demonstrated success in negotiating and managing supplier contracts to achieve cost savings and enhance supplier performance
  • Experience in managing cross-functional teams and building collaborative relationships
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make data-driven decisions
  • English communication (written and verbal)
  • Presentation skills, able to influence stakeholders at all levels
  • Ability to travel in North America and internationally, up to 40%
