Job Summary

The Canada Area Sales Manager leads a team of Outside Sales professionals, overseeing sales activities and ensuring goals are met. You will create strategic plans, guide leadership on critical initiatives, and manage performance to exceed targets, all while upholding business integrity, ethics, and customer centricity.


Role Responsibilities:

  • Develops and trains the sales team on processes, tools, and standards. Provides regular coaching, including 'one-on-one' meetings, customer calls, and opportunity reviews.
  • Sets clear performance expectations and assesses sales behaviors and activities. Gives consistent feedback to motivate improved performance.
  • Provides sales focus with aggressive individual and team goals aligned with the business plan. Analyzes market performance and executes growth strategies.
  • Builds relationships with contractors, partners, and decision-makers to drive sales of services and projects. Listens actively to identify customer concerns.
  • Establishes local account management in line with branch strategy and assigns key accounts. Leads the team on target accounts and maintains long-term customer relationships.
  • Reviews bids and proposals for accuracy. Oversees proposal preparations and review meetings.
  • Uses sales tools (CRM, estimating software) effectively to document progress and increase business opportunities. Ensures high activity levels are managed in Salesforce.com.
  • Maintains staffing levels to meet business goals and directs performance management. Ensures compliance with legal requirements and upholds high business ethics.
  • Engages with leadership to create a high-energy, winning team culture. Acts as primary contact for strategic prospects to understand and meet customer needs.
  • Leads business development for strategic prospects, supporting executive leadership's strategy. Identifies bid opportunities, negotiates with large customers, and builds relationships to win projects.
  • Contacts potential strategic prospects to discuss needs and sell products/services. Delivers branch orders and margin plans for the assigned area. Controls selling expenses and manages resources to improve profitability.
  • Sets professionalism standards within the sales team, focusing on customer satisfaction, quality, and understanding the local business environment.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • 5+ years in progressive sales management for building automation in commercial and institutional markets.
  • 5+ years quoting contracting practices and associated risks (fixed price, guaranteed maximum price, design/build, DBFM, etc.)
  • 3+ years managing direct reports.

​​Preferred Qualifications

  • Subject to location of residency, ability to travel up to 50% domestically and nationally, and occasionally to the US.
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, business, or marketing.
  • Experience in sales, operations, design, and engineering within building systems and services.
  • Knowledge of engineering specifications and contract terms.
  • Familiarity with Canadian BAS procurement channels and processes, including relationships with general, mechanical, and electrical contractors.
  • Experience working with enterprise-level organizations such as healthcare, education, pharmaceuticals, utilities, government, data centres, and commercial buildings.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with individuals at all levels, both technically and non-technically.
  • Experience in a supervisory role with responsibility for team productivity and development.
  • Commitment to business integrity.
  • Capability to motivate and lead teams.
  • Proficiency in using data to develop business strategies.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and French.
