About this role

United Technologies Electronic Controls (UTEC) Control Box Group designs, develops, and manufactures control and control panel solutions for the HVAC, refrigeration, and other OEM related markets globally.  UTEC is seeking an Electrical Engineer to be based in Fort Wayne, IN.  The available opportunity is a critical and comprehensive role within the Control Box Engineering group.  UTEC is a fast-paced and growing business and we are looking for a self-directed contributor and team player who will help us achieve and exceed product and business growth targets while simultaneously driving improved quality and customer satisfaction.  The successful candidate will work as a member of an engineering design team that develops EOL test fixtures and code for electrical control panels and enclosures.  

Key Responsibilities:

Electrical Test Design 

  • Interaction with team members both internal and external to create testers and tester updates for new control box designs and features according to their specifications 
  • Management of your own workflow for assigned projects 
  • Test fixture layout, fixture wiring, schematic creation, and fixture programming. 
  • Utilization of AutoCad as well as Microsoft Office to complete design level documentation.  
  • Examples of documentation include test fixture schematics, test verification sheets and test coverage documents. 
  • Utilization of Visual Studios to create VB.Net test code. 
  • Assembly and wiring of complete test fixtures to be used at our manufacturing locations. 
  • Manage electronic Test Change Notice (TCN) generation and implementation through the Windchill product data management system 

Production & Prototype Support 

  • Evaluation and approval of components with suppliers to meet requirements for function and performance 
  • Administer or participate in project design reviews 
  • Evaluation of electrical failures in our products to determine root cause and corrective actions 
  • Remote test support of multiple manufacturing locations required. 
  • Travel to customer, supplier, and manufacturing sites to support test fixtures for pre-production and production builds. 
  • Travel approximately 20% 

Required Qualifications:  

  • Bachelor’s Degree Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology
  • 3+ mths.of experience in electrical design  

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to read, understand, and troubleshoot electrical schematics 
  • Familiarity with standard office productivity tolls (Microsoft Office, etc.) 
  • Familiarity with electromechanical devices (motors, breakers, relays, etc) and electromechanical enclosures are highly desirable 
  • Familiarity with Heating, Ventilating and Air Conditioning systems is highly desirable 
  • Experience in using Visual Studios and VB.Net is also highly desirable.  
  • Experience in using AutoCAD or a similar 2d drawing program for schematic and wire harness design is preferred. 
  • Experience with board level communications, RS485, Modbus, BACnet is desirable. 
  • Experience with Agilent DAQ systems is preferred.
