About the role

A Chiller Technician installs, maintains, and repairs large-scale cooling systems, diagnosing and fixing mechanical and electrical issues to ensure efficient operation. Key responsibilities include performing routine maintenance, conducting emergency repairs, maintaining detailed logs, and ensuring compliance with safety and service standards. 

Key responsibilities

• Installation:

  Install, commission, and set up chillers and related components. 

• Maintenance:

  Perform routine checks, cleaning, adjustments, and preventative maintenance on chiller systems, including components like compressors, pumps, and cooling towers. 

• Repair:

  Troubleshoot and repair mechanical and electrical faults in refrigeration circuits, motors, and control systems. This includes brazing, soldering, and handling refrigerants. 

• Troubleshooting:

  Diagnose and resolve problems with various components of the cooling system, such as water-cooled and air-cooled chillers. 

• Compliance and documentation:

  Adhere to all safety regulations, like Lock Out/Tag Out procedures, and maintain accurate records of all work performed. 

• Technical support:

  Provide technical guidance and training to other technicians and assist with customer inquiries. 

• Physical requirements:

  Perform physical tasks including climbing, lifting, and operating machinery, often in various weather conditions. 

• Experience 8-10 years in HVAC

Required skills and qualifications

• Technical knowledge:

  Proficiency with refrigeration, electrical systems, and mechanical components of large-scale HVAC/chiller systems. 

• Experience:

  Experience in industrial or commercial environments and with different types of chillers. 

• Certifications:

  A relevant trade qualification, a Refrigerant Handling Licence, and a Construction Induction Card are often required. 

• Manual skills:

  Ability to use a variety of tools, including diagnostic analyzers, welders, and precision measuring equipment. 

• Physical fitness:

  Ability to perform the physical demands of the job.
