About this position
As an HVAC/RApprentice with Carrier, you will uniquely impact our customers, becoming the face of the confidence we stand by while ensuring their comfort. You will have the opportunity to learn of Commercial HVAC and you will be critical in working on a variety of installations, repairs, and maintenance projects. Chances to work and learn from a team and highlight your ability to both collaborate and individually. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is passionate about their trade and wants to take their skills to the next level. This job will be based out of our Mississauga office covering the Greater Torontoarea.

At Carrier, we value our partnerships with our Union workers. Carrier has an on-call schedule that helps ensure better work-life balance, with on-call rotation being held every 7-8 weeks in most locations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Inspect air-conditioning units to ensure efficient operation
  • Perform regularly scheduled maintenance on heating and cooling units
  • Diagnose mechanical and electrical malfunctions
  • Install, replace, or repair damaged equipment; calibrate thermostatic controls
  • Install new heating, ventilation and air-conditioning systems; repair and replace damaged or worn heating, ventilation and air-conditioning parts and equipment; repair or replace low- and high-pressure liquid lines
  • Inspect and observe pressure of liquids and vapor with instrumentation to ensure efficient operation of unit and make necessary adjustment; inspect and service refrigeration equipment including refrigerators, ice machines, gas packs, and heat pumps
  • Maintain the chilled and hot water supply systems
  • Adjust and maintain internal electrical and electronic control systems; cleans coils, blowers, checks motors, and belt tensions
  • Assemble and install metal ductwork
  • Assist in planning and designing of new installations of heating and air-conditioning systems
  • Maintain maintenance records as required by province of Ontario
  • Performs additional duties and responsibilities as required
  • Recognize and identify potential risks and hazards associated with performing all work-related duties safely
  • Work to mitigate potential risks associated with essential duties
  • Collaborate with management personnel to maintain safe working environments

Basic Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • A valid driver’s license is required (G).
  • Local 787 (JTAC) member with valid apprenticeship training agreement.
  • Gas fitter 2 license.
  • Ability to push/pull/lift up to 50lbs 
  • 1+ year experience in basic HVAC troubleshooting and maintenance.

Preferred Skills (assets):

It is nice to have knowledge of:

  • Principles and practices of Heating, Venting, Air Conditioning (HVAC) maintenance and repair; hazard and safety practices common to the trade
  • HVAC controls and safety devices; tools of the trade; materials and refrigerant recovery equipment and procedures used in installing, repairing and maintaining HVAC systems
  • Basic knowledge of chilled water and hydronic heating systems.
